Description: Swedish bladesmith Roger Bergh forges one-of-a-kind sole authorship creations that have a timeless beauty and high attention to detail.
The mosaic Damascus blade is a multi-bar composite. The edge and spine have been forged into a firecracker pattern from 20C and 15N20 carbon steels -- both picked for the edge holding ability. The central Damascus includes pure nickel, for a very high contrast, dramatic effect. Depicted in the steel are dancing figures in pure nickel.
Roger is particularly well known for his handle-work, where he uses particularly rare and exotic materials. The main section of the handle is formed from scales of mammoth ivory bark. The overall tone is one of dark caramel with black rivulets running though. Toward the butt, the grey-blue under color is revealed. The bolster and spacer are both created from crosscut ivories -- showing off the dramatic texture of fossil mammoth and walrus ivories. The tang is hidden from view using pieces of oak recovered from a 300 year old ship wreck. This wood has a unique texture that is not found anywhere else. A piece of crosscut mammoth ivory finishes out the butt. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
