Description: This knife is truly a one-of-a-kind piece since no other horn knifemaker in Scandinavia has produced a sheath using a bent horn. The traditional Scandinavian pattern on the sheath is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder (rather than scrimshaw, which is comparatively simpler to execute). Both the back and front of the sheath have this engraving, though the back is less ornate. The detail is incredibly clear. The sheath features three dimensional cutouts that are the hallmark of Jonny's work. The blade is revealed through the three star cutouts when inserted into the sheath.
The blade is dramatic Styrefors Damascus in a hunter style with a false edge, and bears Mattias' mark. Mattias has forged a five bar composite blade from carbon steels. The firecracker pattern edge bar is forged from 20C and 15N20 for exceptional edge retention.
The handle is very traditional for the Nordic blades having a slim oval shape that fits very comfortably into the hand. The reindeer antler in the handle has a slight gloss finish. This is one of the most impressive traditional Nordic style knives I have seen.
