Description: American Bladesmith Society Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley has been one of the major forces to define the American folding knife today. The design, fit, finish, and action are all exception. The intricacy and originality of his Damascus is rarely found in other's work. Not surprisingly, this folder won "Best Damascus" at the 2003 OKCA show.
The mosaic Damascus used throughout this piece has a complex ribbon and scroll pattern created in pure nickel in the background with a bold Persian Ribbon pattern moving across this field. By using many different steels, Rick is able to create several different shades of blues, purples and bright silver throughout the piece. The result is a Damascus pattern that is both fascinating from a distance and up close. The Damascus continues seamlessly from blade to scale with a perfect match in the Persian Ribbon pattern.
The screws have been fully fileworked and bring out the reflective nickel used throughout the Damascus. The 15N20 carbon steel liners have been heat blued and fileworked to a deep metallic blue. By alternating fileworking and texturing, the liners take on a life of their own. This pattern in continued in the 1084 carbon steel backbar. The hand turned thumb stud has been fileworked and holds a sapphire. Excellent fit and finish throughout. Great action with a well centered blade.
