Blade: Pressure flaked flint blade by Joe Higgins. The flint stone is from Edwards Plateau, Uvalde, TX
Handle: Pyrographed and polychromed apple wood. The motif is a horned toad and ants.
Description: This is utility-style pressure flaked blade with a semi-traditional handle has been adapted for modern use. The handle is pyrographed and polychromed in a Southwest native American motif. A horned toad, in search of lunch, chases a trail of ants. There is a Japanese-style "surprise" on the back, where the ants descend into their anthill.
The team of Tom Sterling and JP Higgins is a formidable force. Joe Higgins, who has been flint knapping knives for over 10 years, created the blade of this masterpiece with precision. This skill is matched in the detailed handle created by Tom Sterling, who has brought his attention to detail learned as an internationally known netsuke artist to this piece.
