Description: I was extremely pleased when Roger created several traditional Sami influenced knives this year. Here, he has created a traditional half-horn sheath, with a leather top along with fossilized mammoth ivory, masur birch, and pewter spacers. The effect is spectacular. By combining the timeless patterns of the Sami people with the materials that Roger knows so well, he has created a knife that speaks for itself.
The carving by Isak Bergh (Roger's 28 year old son) on this spectacular knife evokes traditional arts of Nordic and Celtic cultures. The detailing is beyond belief, evoking feelings of great speed. It fits very comfortably in the hand with the cat's head protruding beyond the palm. Since Isak is now studying 3-D computer animation, there will be fewer collaborations between him and Roger. The desert ironwood spacers are rich in color and well figured.
