Description: This Damascus Folder was made by Mastersmith Josh Smith. It has been kept in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It is in new condition and by all appearances, Josh could have made it yesterday.
Josh grew up in Lincoln, Montana on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. At the age of 11, Josh’s baseball coach, Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley, began teaching him how to make knives. Over the next few years, Josh began forging and honing his craft. At 15 years old, Josh passed the Journeyman bladesmith test and became the youngest bladesmith to ever pass this test. Josh continued to work on his craft and at the age of 19 he earned his Master Smith rating from the American Bladesmith Society. Josh was the youngest bladesmith to ever pass the Master Smith test. Today, Josh is also well known as the founder of Montana Knife Co.
The upswept blade is forged from Josh's own heat blued Damascus, combining 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels. The bright blue finish is extremely engaging. The blade features a full flat grind and is razor sharp. It can be opened easily using the right-handed thumbstud inlaid with a topaz.
Handle scales are premium goldlip mother of pearl, secured to heat colored 15N20 liners using hand fileworked screws. The scales are nicely dovetailed to matching heat blued damascus bolsters. The liners surround a polished backbar.
Excellent work throughout!
