Description: Knives by Mastersmith Wade Colter have a spirit of their own. Part of this is the amazing fit and finish found on all his knives, but much of it is not entirely able to be captured in a photo. Colter is a maker’s maker – one of the folks that other makers use for inspiration and to measure their work against. This exceptional Montana Toothpick has been in a private collection since it was made. It is in new condition and by all appearances, Wade could have made it yesterday.
The damascus blade was hand forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. It is flat ground with a little convexity at the cutting edge to increase chip resistance. Because the blade is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The contoured handle is macassar ebony (Diospyros celebica), known for its striped appearance which combines deep browns and dark blacks. It is also dense and very hard, creating an excellent handle for hard use knives. The handle is heirloom fit to a polished sterling silver fluted spacer and oval guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
