Description: Swedish knifemaker Tony Karlsson lives Agunnaryd. He began making knives in 1997 after being inspired by a knife made by a friend who had taken a knifemaking course. He makes an exceptional knife! This Swedish puukko was kept in a private collection since it was made in 2011. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, Tony could have made it yesterday!
The blade is hand ground AEB-L stainless steel. Many knifemakers and metallurgists feel that AEB-L, with its small crystalline size, tremendous edge stability and toughness, is among the best stainless steels used in knifemaking today. AEB-L was developed for razor blades with a very fine grain structure making it easy to sharpen while maintaining good edge holding capabilities. The grinds are mirror polished while the flats have been stippled by hand. Tony's touchmark is on the right side of the blade.
The handle is masur birch, secured to the tang using a stainless steel pin. The wood selected is stunning with beautiful ray figure moving throughout the wood. Sections of caramel-toned mammoth ivory match the wood well. Stacked stainless steel and fiber spacers will help the natural materials adjust to humidity and temperature changes. This knife could easily be at the center of any serious knife collection.
To keep the knife close at hand, a Swedish style single seam leather custom sheath is included. The front of the sheath is nicely dyed to match the figure of the wood handle. Karlsson's signature and the year 2011 is marked on the reverse side of the sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
