Description: This spectacular art knife is one of Swedish maker CarlMichael's masterpieces. CarlMichael crafted his first knife at 15 years old. He has been crafting handmade knives for over 30 years. Black Pearl was made in 2009 and is at the center of Carlmichael's book "How to Make an Art Knife" which shows the construction of this knife from beginning to end. A copy of this book is included with the knife. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in new condition and by all appearances, CarlMichael could have made it yesterday.
The damascus blade was forged by renowned Swedish bladesmith Roger Bergh. The high contrast pattern is extremely engaging. By using carbon steels, Roger ensures the blade will have excellent edge holding. The top edge stops just short of being fully sharpened. The tip is reinforced for extra penetrating strength.
The handle combines African blackwood and reindoor antler for a unique, high contrast presentation. The Black Pearl ship is stippled by hand by CarlMichael. The natural coloring of the reindeer antler creates a scene of the ship moving through fog. Thinner spacers of California buckeye burl surround the antler. Domed brass pins are inlaid throughout the back of the handle.
A beautiful presentation stand made by CarlMichael is included to proudly display the knife. The wood used is sunken oak recovered from a shipwreck at the bottom of the sea. A reindeer antler plaque is engraved with the name Black Pearl. In addition to the presentation stand, the knife is accompanied by a Swedish single seam leather sheath, also made by CarlMichael.
Excellent work throughout!
