The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth, drop-shut action. The ambidextrous flipper tab makes deploying the blade with one hand a breeze.
The hand ground blade is Damacore stainless damascus san mai forged by Damasteel. This exciting steel combines a high performing core of nitrogen based N11X, surrounded by alternating outer layers of stainless damascus combining RWL34 and PMC27 martensitic stainless steels. N11X has a comparable composition to nitrogen based Vanax SuperClean which is known for having both high wear resistance and high toughness against chipping or cracking. The blade is hollow ground by hand for an easy to maintain edge.
The lockside frame is Black Timascus with zirconium inlaid around the adjustable external pivot. The backspacer is matching Black Timascus. The front scale is 6Al4V titanium that is meticulously engraved and inlaid with precious metals by Julian Marchal. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium and now lives in South Africa. The extremely detailed engraving depicts a scene from the legendary tale of Queen Boudicca. Boudicca is meticulously engraved in Bolino technique. The engraving combines 24K yellow gold, 18K green gold and copper inlays.
During the Roman conquest of southern Britain (60-61 AD), Queen Boudicca ruled the Iceni tribe of East Anglia alongside her husband King Prasutagus. After King Prasutagus’s death, his lands and household were plundered by the Romans. Queen Boudicca was publicly flogged and humiliated and her daughters were raped by Roman slaves while Romans seized Iceni lands. This outraged the Iceni, resultin in a massive revolt against the Romans. Leading an army comprised of the Iceni, the Trinovantes, and other British tribes, Boudicca sacked the Roman controlled settlements Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium (St. Albans). An estimated 70,000 - 80,000 Romans and Britons were killed in the three cities by those following Boudicca. Unfortunately, the rebellion came to a violent end after Roman Governor Suetonius assembled an army for a final battle fought in the Midlands of England in 61 AD. It is said that Queen Boudicca cried that she was descended from mighty men but she was fighting as an ordinary person for her lost freedom, her bruised body and outraged daughters. To the men in her ranks, it is said that she asked them to consider: 'Win the battle or perish: that is what I, a woman will do; you men can live on in slavery if that’s what you want.' The rebellion was cut down by Roman cavalry resulting in the deaths of over 80,000 Briton men, women, and children and very few Roman casualties. During the Victorian era, Boudicca's fame took on legendary proportions, as Queen Victoria came to be seen as Boudicca's "namesake", their names being identical in meaning. Queen Boudicca became a worldwide icon as the woman who stood against the might of Rome.
This is an exquisite knife fitting of such a legend!
Exceptional work throughout!
