Description: French knifemaker Jean-Pierre Martin makes an exceptional gentleman's folder. A lover of technique and precision, Jean-Pierre started his career as an auto mechanic and later became a self taught blacksmith. This love for working with his hands led him to the world of high end cutlery. Today he is considered one of the great French cutlery makers though his work is rarely seen outside of France. We were extremely pleased to be able to meet with him at Blade Show and present some of his work here in the United States!
The blade rotates on ball bearings and has silky-smooth, drop-shut action. The perfectly centered blade can be easily deployed using the ambidextrous flipper tab. It is hand ground by Martin and features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by Damasteel in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength and resistance to cracks and chips. Martin's mark is on the left side of the blade and Tashi's logo is on the right side.
Handle scales are contoured unidirectional carbon fiber set on satin finished titanium liners. The scales are perfectly fit to blackened zirconium bolsters. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is resistant to corrosion and scuffing. The titanium liners surround a raised carbon fiber backbar. A deep carry titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
