Description: This impressive bowie is made in the style of the famous bowie maker Bill Bagwell. Bill was one of the founding members of the American Bladesmith Society and is believed to have been the second modern bladesmith to make pattern welded damascus steel. Bagwell built a reputation not only on his fighting bowies, but also on the knife writing he did for magazines such as Soldier of Fortune and Tactical Knives. He also authored the book: Bowies, Big Knives, and the Best of Battle Blades. His knife combat techniques have been taught as part of the Special Forces training at Ft. Bragg. This knife by Erik Fritz is an homage to Bagwell's famous Hell's Belle Bowie. This knife won Best Bowie at the 2023 Oregon Knife Show in Eugene, Oregon.
The 9-1/3 inch blade is hand forged 52100 carbon steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. 52100 is considered by many makers and knife users to be among the highest performing steels used in modern knives. A differential heat treatment line travels along the blade. This shows the transition between the ultra-hard cutting edge and the supportive spine. This technique ensures this knife will have the very best edge holding combined with strength and durability.
The coffin handle is cocobolo. As is typical of the Hell's Belle style, this handle features large domed pins and an escutcheon. The oval guard and spacer are satin finished 416 stainless steel. This style of handle was designed to have a tactile feel that allows the user feel the orientation of the knife.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather sheath made by Simenson in Foryth, Montana is included.
Nice work throughout!
