Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father ran a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kikuo joined his father's business at the age of 15 and learned the grinding technique from his father. Over the years Kikuo's skill at the grinder has become legendary. He is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing, hiking, and travel. Kikuo's Subaru Folder was quick to make waves throughout the industry when it was released. His new, revamped Subaru II features some incredible upgrades that make an already great knife even more incredible!
The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action thanks to the ball bearing pivot. The blade can be easily opened using the ambidextrous flipper tab.
The Bohler M390 stainless steel blade will have exceptional edge holding. M390 takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powdered metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. It features Kikuo's high performance Hamaguri-ba (convex) grind along with his non-reflective disruptive acid finish.
The integral handle is machined from one solid piece of blue anodized, aircraft grade titanium, showing off Kikuo's machining skills at their best. The backbar is marked "1/200, Made in Japan". A pivot collar on the reverse side acts as a lockbar stabilizer to prevent accidental lock over-travel. A lockbar insert ensures solid lockup for years to come. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
A special tool made by Kiku is included to disassemble the knife if needed.
Excellent work throughout!
