Description: Kevin and Heather Harvey teach bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn their techniques. Kevin uses the Heavin Forge mark on his knives when he creates a knife while demonstrating for his classes. This is one such knife.
The drop point blade on this Forged Camp Knife is 5160 carbon steel. It was forged closely to shape, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. 5160 has excellent edge holding and chip resistance capabilities while maintaining high toughness and resistance to breakage. A differential heat treatment creates a knife with a strong edge, supported by the resilience of a softer spine. The Heavin Forge mark is on the left side of the blade. The spine was hand fileworked for a secure thumb purchase.
Red bushwillow handle scales are set on the full tang for strength and durability. South African red bushwillow (Combretum apiculatum) has great figure and a nice warm, dark tone. The scales are set on the distal tapered full tang using six brass pins. Black and white fiber liners add a nice contrast to the dark wood scales.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
