Description: Des Horn is one of the fathers of the South African knife industry. His influence can be clearly seen in other South African's work, but also extends into knives made around the world. Whether put to a daily carry folder or an art knife, his attention to detail and skill is legendary.
The Slimvubu is Des' ultra-light version of his renowned Imbuvu. Black/blue chatoyant carbon fiber and titanium keep this knife as light and fast as it comes.
The blade is hand ground, high performing RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL 34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to cracking. Des Horn double tempered and cryogenically treated the steel in liquid nitrogen for the ultimate in edge holding and strength.
The blade is well centered and has smooth action. It is easily opened using the front flipper mechanism. This style of flipper is not designed to be flicked open, but instead is rotated with the thumb.
Blue/black carbon fiber scales keep this EDC light yet strong. It feels exceptional in the hand yet at just 3.2 oz, it disappears in the pocket. The handle is completed with blue anodized and fileworked titanium liners that elegantly contrast against the scales. The deep carry titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
