Description: This exceptional back lock folder was made by Barry Davis. Barry is from Castleton, NY and sold his first knife in 1980. He was a protégé of Jim Schmidt and specializes in collector-grade folding knives with his own damascus and embellishment. This knife was in a private collection since it was made. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, it could have ben made yesterday.
Davis started with deceivingly simple lines and worked them to perfection. The dagger-ground blade is Barry's own laddered damascus. The flat grind nicely shows off the damascus' inherent undulating pattern. The blade is easily opened using the 14k gold thumb stud.
The handle is 416 stainless steel and was engraved by Sam Alfano. Sam is renowned for his skill in both scroll engraving and figures. Floral scroll engraving interlaces with 24kt gold inlay and surrounds exhibition grade blacklip mother of pearl inlays. The 'bolster' region shows a woman engraved in bulino style. The engraving is tremendously lifelike and detailed. This is surrounded by a 24kt gold frame.
The blade is well centered and has smooth, consistent action. Exceptional work throughout.
