Description: This exceptional Japanese-influenced katana is the work of Washington Mastersmith Michael Rader. Michael specializes in high performance kitchen knives and edged weapons from around the world. This sword was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances Michael could have made it yesterday!
The 28 inch blade is forged from Michael's own high layer damascus combining carbon steels to ensure excellent toughness and chip resistance. The high contrast damascus pattern will have you staring at the blade for hours. Michael's touchmark is on the left side of the blade and his M.S. mark is on the right side. The spine culminates into an elegant ridge.
The handle combines maple with Hawaiian koa accents. The handle is wrapped with ito cord mirroring a traditional katana wrap which provides excellent grip in hand. The decorative tsuba (blade guard) is forged from Michael's own damascus, nicely complementing the damascus blade. This sword feels exceptionally nimble in hand despite its large size.
Rader made a saya to protect the sword during transportation and storage. The saya is made from matching maple with koa accents. A beautiful wooden stand made by Michael is also included to prominently display the sword.
Exceptional work throughout!
