Description: This is an elegant little Hunter made by EG Peterson of Whitefish Montana. Eldon was a spectacular knifemaker and went full time in 1974. He was well known both for his hunting knives and folders. He passed away on Oct. 19, 2011. This knife was made in the mid-2000s and is in new condition. The knife has not been used to cut and by all appearances, Peterson could have made it yesterday.
The drop point blade is ATS-34 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. ATS-34 is high in carbon and chromium giving excellent chip resistant, edge holding, and corrosion resistance. The blade is hollow ground to a razor sharp edge. Peterson's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
Mammoth ivory handle scales are set on the full tang using mosaic pins. There is a small check in the ivory, however it is completely closed and sealed. It most likely dates to when the knife was made by Peterson. The tang is distal tapered, providing excellent balance in hand. A lined lanyard tube allows a lanyard to be added to the back of the knife for extra retention. The scales are perfectly dovetailed to mokume-gane bolsters. The lightly contoured handle feels great in the hand.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
