Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. Regrettably, these days, very few of his knives make it over to the US.
The handle on this Classic Skinner is elk antler. A sheep horn spacer provides a nice contrast. Thin black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The Classic Skinner is a rare model for Bob to make, and I have only encountered one before.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The CPM154 stainless steel blade has been heat treated to Rc58 for optimal edge retention and durability. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it! The blade is hollow ground for easy maintenance. A ricasso makes re-sharpening a breeze.
Accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath, Cordura storage pouch, and certificate from the maker.
