Description: Dew (Ryuichi) Hara is the adult son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Dew grew up in a knife family and naturally got involved with the knifemaking by helping his father and learning his techniques. Koji Hara is well known for creating art knives with tremendous precision and detailed inlays. After working in his father's workshop for over 20 years and completing an apprenticeship with Anthony Marfione, Dew decided to create his own knives.
The KAO Money Clip Flipper from Dew Hara is functional art. The compact 1-1/2" blade is hand ground VG-10 stainless damascus san mai. A central core of VG-10 stainless steel is surrounded by alternating layers of linear damascus on each side. VG-10 provides excellent edge holding and chip resistance. A small flipper tab allows the blade to open on caged bearings.
Leaf shaped handle scales are copper and feature a traditional Japanese patina known as Hido. The copper is heated until right before its melting point and quenched to produce a very pleasing scarlet-red patina. Anodized titanium cutouts are inlaid into the copper. The copper scales are set on satin finished 420 stainless steel liners. The liners are jewel polished in the interior. The oversized pocket clip doubles as a money clip.
Excellent work throughout!
