Description: Richard Soler is a talented knifemaker from Auriol, France. He specializes in high performance front flippers. The influence of his good friend and fellow knifemaker Guy Pogetti can clearly be seen in his work. Richard's knives are exceptional, and we are excited to showcase it here in the United States where his work is rarely available.
The flat ground blade is carbon steel heat treated using a traditional Japanese clay zone heat treatment. This technique, known as honyaki, creates some of the longest lasting edges found anywhere. The ultra-hard edge steel is supported by the softer spine. The dramatic heat treatment line (called a hamon) shows the transition between the soft and hard steel. Soler's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth, drop-shut action thanks to the ball bearing pivot. The blade can be easily deployed using the front flipper tab using your thumb or index finger.
Handle scales are curly koa. Koa (Acacia koa) is a beautiful exotic wood that only grows on the Hawaiian islands. It is one of the most desirable exotic woods in the world. Titanium liners surround a carbon fiber backbar. A lanyard can be added to the back of the knife if desired.
Excellent work throughout!
