Description: This Mosaic Damascus Quillion Dagger was made by Ohio bladesmith Justin Chenault. Justin started making knives in 2005. His first foray into smithing was in a high school class where he was tasked with forging a hatchet for camping. After graduating high school, Justin assembled the basics of his own blacksmith's shop. He quickly joined the Southern Ohio Forge Associate (SOFA) which helped him connect with other smiths. Justin is a journeyman smith with the American Bladesmith Society. He won Season 7, Episode 6 of Forged in Fire, proving his skills on national television. This Mosaic Damascus Dagger is among his master works to date!
The 10-1/3 inch blade is hand forged from Justin's own mosaic damascus, combining 1095 and 15n20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. Daggers are one of the hardest blades to grind because it becomes extremely obvious if the blade is not ground perfectly. Justin's mark is on the left side of the ricasso.
The handle is African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). African Blackwood is among the most dense, durable woods available in the world and is highly prized for its jet black appearance. The dramatic wood was meticulously hand fluted and wrapped with fine silver twisted wire. Fluted nickel spacers separate the handle from the antiqued bronze quillion guard and pommel. The pommel can be twisted to disassemble the knife if cleaning or maintenance is needed. Take-down construction requires tighter tolerances and shows Justin's focus on the small details.
A custom sheath is included - handmade by Justin from Warthog leather and a bronze frog.
Exceptional work throughout!
