Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor is best known for one-of-a-kind art knives, with an emphasis on pictorial mosaic damascus and highly engraved art knives. His unique vision is influenced by steam punk and gothic aesthetics. Among his best known designs are the batwing fighter and the batwing folder. This knife is Shane's batwing design.
The 3.6 inch blade combines two bars of complex mosaic damascus. Very few bladesmiths can make damascus patterns this intricate with so little distortion in the pattern. Because the knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural mammoth ivory handle.
The blade is perfectly centered and has smooth, consistent action. The notched front flipper tab makes it very easy to open with your index finger or thumb. With a little practice, the blade can be flicked open or rotated slowly for a more gentleman style opening.
The handle is ancient mammoth ivory bark, fit perfectly to mosaic damascus bolsters. The bolsters are a step-down construction, which makes the illusion of a longer blade. The ancient ivory combines caramel and coffee tones. 15N20 carbon steel liners are textured and heat colored. The backbar is hand engraved by Shane both on the outside and inside. The inside of the liners were brought to a mirror polish which allows them to reflect the engraving on the inside of the backbar making the engraving look even larger. Screws throughout are textured and heat colored.
This is an exceptional one-of-a-kind folder that is sure to be at the pinnacle of any knife collection!
Excellent work throughout!
