Description: Mark Mostert is an exceptional bladesmtih from South Africa. He started making knives part time in 2019 and presented his work for the first time at the 2020 Brooklyn Knife Show in Pretoria, South Africa. From the start, damascus caught his eye and he began a never-ending quest for information surrounding damascus and forging. Mostert brings skills that are far beyond the limited number of years that he has been forging. His work is currently significantly underpriced and I look forward to him gaining a significant international reputation.
The dagger ground blade is Mostert's own mosaic damascus forged from 1070 and 15n20 carbon steels. It is ground perfectly symmetrical. Daggers are one of the hardest blades to grind because it becomes extremely obvious if the blade is not ground perfectly. The intricate damascus pattern is tremendously engaging and demands further inspection.
The handle is hand fluted buckeye burl. The pommel and guard are antiqued bronze. The handle and fittings provide an excellent grip. Because this knife is made from carbon steel, we recommend camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
The knife includes a box with Mostert's mark on it to elegantly display or store the knife.
Excellent work throughout!
