Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Dave brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. Over the last few years, his work has continued to develop a level of refinement that is found in very few knifemakers.
The blade is hand forged 1085 carbon steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. 1085 carbon steel is tough and chip resistant, making it a perfect steel choice for hard use knives. The broad blade provides plenty of weight for chopping tasks. The choil allows you to choke up when using the knife for more detail-oriented work. Dave's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is hand contoured African blackwood
(Dalbergia melanoxylon). African blackwood is among the most dense, durable woods anywhere in the world and is highly prized for its jet black appearance. The sculpted handle feels extremely comfortable in hand. The guard and large spacer are antique wrought iron. The damascene pattern inherent to the wrought iron is immediately captivating. Coined brass spacers finish the handle.
To keep the knife close by, a hand tooled leather sheath made by Skinner is included.
Excellent work throughout!
