Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Dave brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. Over the years since then, his work has continued to develop and grow.
This Southwest Bowie is a tremendous knife.
The blade was forged to shape from Skinner's own damascus, combining 1085 and 15n20 carbon steels. The complex laddered Ws pattern immediately grabs attention from a distance and holds it upon closer examination. The blade is flat ground for a high performing edge. It culminates in a Spanish notch.
The contoured handle is African Mabondolo wood. This dense, resinous wood has a beautiful mix of warm brown and dark brown striations. The figure is similar to curly koa and ringed gidgee. The three piece guard combines two sections of blued mild steel surrounding polished steel. The hand fluted spacer is matching Ws damascus.
This Southwest Bowie is accompanied by a custom tooled leather sheath.
Exquisite work throughout!
