Description: Mastersmith Harvey Dean has been handcrafting knives since 1981 and began hand forging blades in 1986. As a member of the American Bladesmith Society, he received his Mastersmith rating in 1992. Dean strives to use the best quality materials in every knife he makes.
This Shadow Pattern Slipjoint is a tremendous knife by Harvey and shows his work at its best. The dramatic blade is El Nino pattern damascus, forged to shape from 1075 and 15N20 carbon steels, providing exceptional edge retention. A long swedge runs from tip to the top of the clip. Harvey's maker mark is shown on the left ricasso. The blade is easily opened using the right-handed thumb nick. It has consistent action with a half stop.
The handle is made from lightning strike carbon fiber. Copper wires move through the woven carbon. A stainless steel escutcheon is inlaid into the left handle scale. The spring is decoratively textured to complement the damascus blade.
Excellent work throughout!
