Description: Minnesota bladesmith Cody Hofsommer has had a passion for knifemaking since he was young. He started learning the art of blacksmithing in 2003, and has hand-forged many knives over the years. His goal is to make a quality piece of art that can also be a practical useful tool. He received his journeyman certification through ABS in 2018. He competed on History Channel's show, Forged in Fire and was named champion after making a damascus pattern Spanish Conquistador sword (season 7 episode 18, aired January 22, 2020). We met Cody at Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia and were immediately blown away by his exceptional quality of work. His custom knives are some of the most refined you will ever encounter. We're keeping a close eye on Cody and expect him to become one of the 'greats'.
The mosaic damascus blade on the quillion dagger is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The patttern is high contrast and shows tremndous control at the forge. The grind is perfectly symmetrical and culminates in a perfectly balanced ricasso.
The Arizona desert ironwood handle is meticulously hand fluted. The top of each flute is inlaid with twisted Argentium silver wire. Argentium silver wire was used because it resists oxidation. It is purer than Sterling silver, has increased tarnish resistance and a whiter color. The wire was perfectly and evenly twisted by hand. The forged quillion guard, ferrule, and pommel nicely show his highly controlled mosaic damascus. This dagger has a perfect sense of balance. It is as enjoyable to hold as it is to look at.
Exceptional work throughout!
