Description: Ricardo Vilar is one of the makers that has brought the Brazilian knife market to the forefront of American collectors' minds. His integral designs and attention to detail clearly set him apart as a leader. This knife has been in a private collection since it was created by Vilar back in 2004. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Ricardo could have made it yesterday.
This hunter was forged from 52100 carbon steel round bar. This allowed Ricardo to create the integral ferrule, moving directly into the satin finished blade. 52100 continues to be among my favorite steels for edge holding. The edge is very 'bity' and amazingly long lasting. Ricardo has created this knife with an appleseed grind -- the edge preferred by many ABS members for high performance edge retention. The blade has a distinctive shape that is immediately captivating. The false edged clip provides an aggressive tip for detail work.
The curly maple handle melds perfectly into the integral 52100 bolster, nearly without a seam. The octagonal shape feels very comfortable in the hand and is extremely dramatic.
The knife is accompanied by a leather sheath with basketweave tooling.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
