Description: This exceptional High Clip Hunter was made by Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson. Jay succeeded Bill Moran as ABS president in 1991. He has taught bladesmithing throughout the US and France and has served as director of the Moran Foundation for 10 years, helping to preserve Bill's Legacy. Jay was inducted into the Cutlery Hall-of-Fame in the spring of 2021.
Th stacked handle combines buffalo horn, osage orange, and curly maple. Silver vines are inlaid into presentation grade curly maple. The knife is perfect to use out in the field, though this knife will also feel at home in any collection.
Jay began by forging the 5160 carbon steel blade to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged knives. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the blade, showing the transition between the soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge. Jay believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal grain refinement and edge holding.
This knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout from a true master of the craft!
