Description: Washington knifemaker, C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith. He apprenticed under Mastersmith David Lisch.
The Kiridashi is a traditional wood carving knife, widely used in Japan. Whether used as a marking knife or to carve wood, kiridashi are used by almost all Japanese carpenters. It is a versatile tool for general use. Translated to English, 'kiridashi' means 'to carve out' in Japanese.
This kiridashi was hand forged by Pina. He began by combining ultra-high performing Cru Forge V with a resilient mild steel backer. The cutting edge, which is approximately 2/3 inches long, is satin finished and features a razor sharp, near-infinite edge. The top flat is forged textured. The bottom is hollow ground. The single bevel edge makes this knife a perfect utility knife for detailed cuts. This Kiridashi is made with a right bevel, which is traditionally used by right handed users in Japan. Many Western woodworkers find that having both a left and right oriented bevel helps for more precise carving.
This kiridashi is accompanied by a custom leather sheath by JouFuu Leather.
Excellent work throughout!
