Description: Bill Moran is considered a legend among the knifemaking community and even considered the "father of modern damascus". He is credited for single-handedly reviving the lost art of forging damascus that has captivated knife enthusiasts and collectors worldwide! Bill founded the American Bladesmithing Society in 1976 and the American Bladesmith School in 1988 to continue teaching the craft of world class knifemaking. There are few knives that are more collectable than an original Bill Moran knife and we were excited to get one of his extremely rare upswept skinning knives. This knife was kept in a private collection by the customer that bought it directly from Moran while visiting his shop. It has been meticulously cared for and has never been used. It is in great condition despite being over 50 years old!
This handmade one-of-a-kind skinning knife was made by Bill Moran in 1969. His skinning knives were often some of the most requested knives from his collectors. The blade is hand forged from carbon steel and features a satin finish. Bill's Lime Kiln, MD stamp is featured on the left ricasso.
The handle is made from a central column of contoured rosewood. The brass guard and butt cap distribute the weight so that the handle easily sits in the hand. The front of the handle is carved to provide a comfortable thumb purchase while skinning.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stiched black leather sheath is included.
This is a chance to own a piece of knifemaking history that is sure to become a family heirloom.
