Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. Over the years, Kikuo's skill at the grinder has become legendary. This traditional tanto is over 20 years old and is the only one of its kind made! This was kept in Kikuo's own private collection for many years until he recently showed it to us! There was no question that we needed to get it! The knife is meticulously cared for and only shows a few marks from going in and out of the saya.
The blade is formed from Japanese VG10 san mai damascus by Takefu Special Steel. The VG-10 core is surrounded by many layers of linear damascus. This core ensures a keen, long lasting, and durable cutting edge. The blade is finely polished. A hollow grind makes for easy sharpening and shows off the clean, dramatic grind lines.
The handle is formed from warm red-toned cocobolo (Dahlbergia retusa) secured to the tang with a mosaic pin. A mammoth ivory ferrule is nicely fit to the wood handle. A matching cocobolo wood saya with mammoth ivory details is included to keep the knife protected during storage and transportation.
Exceptional work throughout!
