Description: Riaan Manser is a full-time knife maker from South Africa. Manser works under the brand name 3LegDog -- named for his pit bull cross dog which lost its hind leg when still a puppy. Manser and his dog spent many days and nights sitting along side each other in the knifemaking studio. Regretfully, his beloved dog passed away last summer. This flipper has Riaan's "Manser" mark, rather than the 3LegDog mark.
This Model T-3 Flipper features a blade formed from premium Bohler ELMAX stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 61. ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for high end folders. The blade features a high flat grind. The grind is bead blasted. The flats are polished.
The blade runs on an IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. Manser created this Model T-3 Flipper with ceramic ball bearings. Generally IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. The blade is perfectly centered, has silky-smooth action, and is easily opened single-handed using the flipper tab.
The handle is formed from black G10 with sections of Python Micarta flawlessly inlaid into the handle. The backspacer is formed from black G10. Titanium hardware is used throughout. The handle is completed with a custom machined, black G10 pocket clip with ceramic retention ball.
Exceptional work throughout!
