Description: Mastersmith P.J. Tomes doesn't make as many knives has he used to, so I was extremely pleased when he called to let us know he had just completed some new knives that were coming our way.
The 8 inch clip point blade was forged from 52100 carbon steel and features a hand rubbed satin finish. Many knifemakers (including the likes of Bill Burke, Ed Fowler, Bob Kramer, and more) and knife users consider 52100 to be among the best, if not the best steel used in modern knifemaking. 52100 takes a super-sharp, long lasting edge. It has tremendous resilience and strength. Because this knife is made from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust. P.J.'s maker mark is on the left side of the ricasso and "MS USA" is on the right side.
Handle scales are made from ancient mammoth ivory bark. The ivory is from the very outer section of the ancient tusk and combines cream and caramel tones. The colors enter the ivory over thousands of years as minerals move into the ivory from surrounding soil. The scales are fit to the distal tapered full tang using four hand domed and textured pins. A perfectly fit oval guard separates the blade and handle.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
