Description: This knife is the collaborative work of Mastersmiths Andrew Meers and Jason Knight. Jason forged and shaped the blade while Andrew made the furniture and engravings. The results are just as stunning as one might expect coming from these two incredible mastersmiths!
The blade was forged to shape by Jason Knight beginning with his own damascus. He combined 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels into a bold, dramatic mosaic damascus. The long raised clip is fully sharpened. An extended fuller is carved into each side, lightening the broad, elegant blade. This blade is perfectly balanced. It begs to be brought out and swung through the air. Jason Knight's mark is set on the left side of the blade. Andrew Meers' mark is set on the right side. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made and by all appearances it is in brand new, unused condition.
Andrew Meers carved the presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood handle to be reminiscent of a katana sword wrap. The scales are set on the distal tapered full tang. The scales meet perfectly with textured, antiqued O1 carbon steel front and rear bolsters. The right front bolster is inlaid with cattails. The reeds are fine silver. The cattail is inlaid with 24k gold. The right, rear bolster depicts detailed lilypads inlaid with fine silver. The right front and rear bolsters are inlaid with detailed, lifelike images of frogs. The frogs are inlaid copper with details inlaid with 24k gold and shakudo. Shakudo is a traditional Japanese metal developed during Nara period (approximately 700AD). All the inlays were meticulously hand engraved with hammer and chisel after being inlaid for lifelike realism.
A dramatic collaborative knife for the serious collector. Excellent fit and finish throughout!
