Description: Master Smith Shane Taylor’s Sea Serpents is among his masterpieces to date. This folder has among the most engraving and inlay that he has incorporated into a folder. Both the blade and handle are formed from Shane's own damascus -- Bats pattern. The steel was heat blued for a dramatic, high contrast effect. By using many different carbon steels, Shane is able to achieve many different tones of blue, purple and silver, woven into a complex steel.
The Celtic leaf shaped blade travels into a step-down handle. This technique gives the illusion of a longer blade, this creating visual proportions that are more appealing. Heat blued screws are used throughout. Each screw has been meticulously hand fileworked, showing Shane's devotion to precision craftsmanship.
The handle is meticulously engraved and inlaid with gold, fine silver and copper. The left side depicts a male sea serpent, undulating through the water. He roars as he slithers forward. A copper tongue and spines bring in subtle, yet complex detail. The reverse side portrays a female sea serpent -- perhaps his mate. The serpents are a unique hybrid of Asian and European traditional sea serpents.
Absolutely exceptional!
